Ice Ice Baby

Ice the leg

Icing on the Go!

I am a school nurse, so I am adept at making first aid supplies from household products.  I don’t believe in spending money on fancy supplies.  I believe in improvising.  I make finger splints out of tongue depressors/popsicle sticks and tape.  I make arm splints from the flaps of cardboard boxes if I have to.

Yesterday I went for a run and immediately afterward I felt a knot in my right calf.  This morning it was worse.  At home today I have my children to be a slave to care for, so I can’t sit for very long.  I filled a baggie with ice, wrapped a paper towel around it, applied tape (well, garage sale pricing “dots” because I couldn’t find tape), and an Ace wrap that’s been reused many times.  Worked like a charm!

Very smart. I wish I had that kind of ingenuity.

That’s what I do after my runs! Simple, cheap, and very effective.
